Learning how to make dilly bags (woven baskets) is a tradition that’s been passed down through families for centuries. Kuku Yalanji artist Aunty Shanelle Lenoy and Delissa Walker are acclaimed Master Weavers and they learned the ancient practice from their grandmothers. Today they keep the culture alive with the use of traditional tools and natural materials that you’ll only find in the narrow coastal region of tropical Australia. Shanelle or Delissa will teach you how to weave your own dilly bag to keep, while sharing personal stories of growing up in the Daintree. The class is suitable for beginners and people of all ages. Bookings are essential (on request). A 2-hour class is $195 per person.
