About

Our Philosophy

We are passionate about making a positive contribution to the local environment and community. We believe that turning a profit and supporting these two areas can go hand-in-hand so we are actively working to improve the social and environmental conditions in the spaces where we operate and beyond

Sustainability is not just a word that we toss around for brownie points with our guests. It is a concept that is at the core of who we are as a business.

Our approach at Daintree Ecolodge:

Environment

Without a healthy local environment we would have nothing. Managing our impact on this fragile ecosystem is a responsibility we place on ourselves as guardians of our local environment. We do this through impact minimization initiatives on site, investing in research and management programs to support the reef, educating our guests and providing an opportunity for people to reconnect to nature.

People

We are a family business therefore our culture is that of family values. Our employees are locals, they live and breathe the local community so they are inheriently family to us too. A happy family means happy customers and so we strive to create a workplace that is healthy, supportive, caring and rewarding.

Community

We see an environmentally, socially and economically diverse and healthy community as a key part of our business success. To support the local community our foundation supports projects that aim to generate sustainable employment in the region, as well as provide training and support to young indigenous Australians who we aim to become a part of our future workforce.

Industry

We want to work with our industry to learn and encourage change. We aim to invest in innovative projects that support the health of the reef and subsequently, the diverse tourism industry in Queensland. We do this by working with Governments, philanthropy, community groups and other tourism operators for better outcomes in the region.

Sustainability at Daintree Ecolodge

In line with our philosophy we have implemented a number of sustainable measures to ensure an eco-sensitive aura pervades the property.

WHAT WE ARE DOING TO KEEP THE OLDEST LIVING RAINFOREST...LIVING:

  • Daintree Ecolodge produces our own renewable energy. 13% of our electricity is from solar panels.
  • A carbon neutral property. Our GHG emissions are offset via Gold Standard Carbon Credit Project WithOneSeed, protecting forests in East Timor and providing local employment with our neighbour
  • Chemical free. Use of Ewater to replace chemicals. We do not use ANY chemicals to clean the rooms or kitchen
  • We plant trees. We have partnered with Rainforest Rescue to assist reforest areas of the Daintree that have been impacted by human development.
  • The removal of p/c amenties to reduce excess plastic waste
  • Daintree supports the anti-straw movement to help clean up our oceans, paper straws are available upon request
  • A state-of-the-art waste water treatment plant that allows 100% of the water to be recycled and used for irrigation and watering
  • A sustainable veggie patch which provides our chefs with a constant supply of fresh produce for guest meals
  • Introduction of chickens which lay eggs daily for chef use
  • The introduction of recycling and composting of waste
  • A commitment to sourcing local, organic, free range and fair trade produce and products

We are committed to continually improving the sustainability of the Daintree Rainforest and look forward to keeping you updated on the progress.
